Curling Iron Basic Tips

With the birth of hair irons, people do not need to go to salons anymore just to get their hair straight. They can now get sleek, smooth, and frizz-free locks in just a matter of minutes, right inside the comforts of their own home. People can now enjoy a straight hair today and go curly the next day without any hassle.

If you are planning to own one of these revolutionary pieces of hair equipment, one important thing to know is that there are different types of hair irons to choose from. By knowing this information, it will be easier for you to make a good decision as to which kind to buy for yourself.

Flat irons made of ceramic plates such as CHI irons are some of the most popular ones in the market today. This type of hair equipment has the ability to distribute heat evenly across the plate surface and retain heat without causing hot spots.

TUTORIAL: Braided Messy Side Bun

This is a cute style that is right on trend for this summer!  This is a style that can go casual or formal! Personalize your own way or add embellishments! This style works best for hair that is mid-length or longer.

So first just start with your normal straightened hair.

I like a little bit of product so the hair doesn’t get to fly away so I used some of the NEW redken wax blast then I used some Bedhead shine spray. I combed these both through my hair.

Since this is an asymmetrical up do I picked which side I wanted my messy bun to be on. I like to pick the side with less hair to balance out my part. I parted straight up along my ear and clipped it forward out of the way.

Next I took the other side and took a section of about the same amount and split the hair into three pieces, I started doing a basic braid by overlapping the three pieces.  I left out my bangs because I like having some hair by my face, you could leave out more or less depending on how “un-done” you want to look!

After I had successfully “braided” the hair once then I start to take hair from both sides. First take some hair and add it to the bottom..

Then do the same thing to the top! Making sure to keep the sections, separate but equal, try to add equal amounts of hair each time for the most even looking braid.

Now cross those over and braid again. Its a french braid! Now keep braiding in this fashion until you get to the point where your arms can’t quite reach behind your head.

Now you will need to switch your hands around to the other side. Make sure you keep one hand separating your braid at all times or your strands will get mixed together! Its easiest to clutch each strand between difference fingers in one hand.

Ok now that your readjusted keep braiding around the back of your head. Don’t worry if you mess up either straighten it out, or start over. Don’t get frustrated if you have to do it a couple times!

Once you start coming around to the other side move your hands to the front of your head again to do the last few braids.

Once all the hair is braided do a few extra single braids to secure, then add a pony tail at the end, we will finish with this later!

Next take your front section out of the clip and spray some thermal protectant on this hair and the hair in the ponytail.  Next start curling the front section, I did this by wrapping the hair around the curling iron, but really you can do it any way you would like, then continue on to curl the ponytail.

Ok it will look something like this, I didn’t curl my pony tail till later, but either way it doesn’t really effect the end result!

Next I combed through the curls with my fingers to soften them and began to separate the front and braid like I had done on the previous side.

When your all done braiding secure this braid by crossing two bobby pins like an “X”, Then secure the pony tail behind your ear the same way so it isn’t “popping” out.

Now remove the rubberband from your ponytail as it should be securely fastened to the rest of your hair. Now take a strand from an already formed curl and put a bobby pin through it about half way.

Then bend the hair to form a loop and push the bobby pin into the braid to secure it.

Then keep taking strands from around the braids and loop and secure them, leaving the curly ends out. If your hair is quite long you may have to loop each strand 2x. This is supposed to messy and random, so don’t worry if strands are poking out. Occasionally look at your style in the mirror to make sure that you don’t have any large holes and you are looping it evenly around into a sort of bun.

The last couple of hairs do the same thing but except for putting them back into the base of the style like the others connect them to the bottom of another loop to make the style more elongated. You can leave some dangling if you wish but I chose to put all my curls up.

The next thing to do is look at the style in the mirror again, see clumps? see gaps? its totally ok! this part is going to fix all that. All you need to do is separate a few of your loops in the middle and pull them apart gently but enough to separate them out. this will help pull and tighten your style together and also blend it and give it a more messy un-done look. Continue this in several spots until you have achieved the desired look.

And now your done! Here is a few pictures from different angles of how mine turned out.  Don’t expect this style to ever look the same way twice, that’s the fun of it!

Hope you enjoyed!  Happy styling :) If you have any more questions feel free to ask….

Longer lengths can be troublesome to take care of and shorter lengths may not fit different facial shapes or looks as well but medium hairstyles seem to be just right for a lot of women. Medium length hair is probably the most versatile choice out there for today’s modern women. These hairstyles vary between long hairstyles and short hair styles. Many women find a mid-length haircut is a great option for many different types of hair texture, rather it be thin and brittle, thick, or just right. Medium hairstyles also are very versatile in the different number of updos, bobs, and various other styles that can be combined with the hair to create some gorgeous looks that is easier to maintain than longer locks while providing looks that are more comfortable and more flattering than shorter hair cuts.

Medium hairstyles match most facial shapes well as there is just enough hair complimenting the facial region and improve other features. Hairstyles with hair length to the shoulders or a small bit above them bring out many facial features with many options for styling. The bob, the shag, and the straight cut are some popular mid-length hairstyles. One classic medium length cut is the bob. A bob is a haircut that’s all one length and ranges from chin length to shoulder length. Bobs can be curly or straight depending on your hair texture, and look fantastic either way. They’re versatile as well, and can easily be upswept for an evening look or left hanging freely for a cute, feminine look. Another great medium length cut is the shag. A shag cut involves cutting layers of various lengths into hair.

Medium length hairstyles are great for layering because of their versatility. Layering medium hair length correctly by framing the facial area often brings out a person’s eyes, lips, and other facial features in a non-obtrusive manner. A medium length cut can be worn curly, wavy or straight. For gorgeous curls, use a curl enhancing spray or mousse on damp hair and blow dry with a diffuser. To define particular strands, curl with a 1/2 inch curling iron or set on small hot rollers. There are so many ways to layer medium length hairstyles because it is long enough to go short in different areas and short enough to keep in others. The simple flow down medium hairstyle is popular because it is very simple. Just letting your hair flow down with either bangs down or parted with additional waves, ringlets, or curls at the ends.
