I am absolutely sure that you have heard about punk and punkers before. What you should know is that Punk is a music genre that has its roots in garage rock and it ‘came to life’ between 1974 and 1976 in American United Kingdom and Australia. The punkers (the followers of the punk movement) are very easy to recognize because they wear quite distinctive clothes and hairstyles that are influenced by the music they prefer. The first girls’ punk hairstyle that I would like you to know about is the pixie cut that was inspired by the 1950’s hairstyles that were introduced to the world by Audrey Hepburn. This hairstyle features very short hair with short layers and often swept forward, but in some cases the hair in the front is curled toward the face.

The next hairstyle is the sun Mohawk. We can say that this is a variation of the traditional Mohawk, but in this case the hair on the sides isn’t cut short. Instead the hair in the back is cut to have short layers and the hair in the front is left longer, having the same length all over or there are bangs cut. In the back of the head there is a ‘sun’ created. It’s like a traditional Mohawk rotated 90 degrees.

The faux hawk is another variation of the Mohawk. It’s just like the traditional one, just that in this case the hair isn’t worn upright, but worn straight back, tied in a ponytail or braided while the sides are cut short.

The last hairstyle that I am going to write about is the modified pageboy. The difference between the traditional hairstyle and the modified one is that this hairstyle has uneven bangs and a more modern cut. It is common for the hair to be cut angled toward one side or the other.

The last thing you should remember about girls’ punk hairstyles is that the idea of these hairstyles doesn’t really come from fashion magazines, but from the personality and those people who aren’t punkers but still are having such a hairstyle are despised by true punkers, so if you feel like you don’t fit in, you should choose another hairstyle and use some elements that you like of the punk hairstyles. It is a characteristic of punkers that they do and wear whatever they want and they are not afraid of not being accepted by society.
