Minx is the latest fashion that totally blings the nails out. Which girl wouldn’t want that? In fact minx is a flexible film, similar to a sticker that is applied to the nails. It is said that only professionals can put them on, but at soon as that happens everybody is mesmerized by its perfection.
You have to go to a specialized salon to be ‘minxed’. There a professional will show you about 50 different designs. When you finally have chosen, the manicurist tells you that you can combine those designs, meaning that you can have different designs on each nail. Can it get any better? Actually it can: Minx is applied just like a sticker, similar to those produced by Avon and Saphora. There is no dripping or smudging. The result is perfect. It looks like you have plunged your nails into liquid metal. Some say that the nails that were ‘minxed’ look like those disco balls from the disco era.
In order to activate the substance that makes the film stick to the nails, the manicurist puts the nails under a lamp that generates heat (up to 120 degrees). That’s all it takes to get the perfect nails. Some say that the nails can last up to two weeks. Others say that they last 4-8 days.
Many celebrities have been spotted with Minx manicure among them Eve, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Kelly Clarkson. Although all these success stories there are the ones that tell you that this magical manicure isn’t so magical after all. It is said to be a true story that somebody got a Minx manicure and after only three days the ends of the film began to pull back from the edge of the nail and the sides were coming up. The conclusion is that this manicure wasn’t invented for the normal daily life. It is great for a special occasion, but don’t expect it to work in the case of everyday life.
Professionals say that in order to extend the life of Minx one should blast the nails with hair dryer or hold them over a pot of hot water and then the film should be pushed down with a cuticle pusher. This method is supposed to extend the lifetime of the Minx. It is kind of expensive to have it as a usual manicure (its price is around$ 40), but I think that if you are preparing for a special occasion, it is worth it.
