1970’s hairstyles gave to women the possibility of giving up those tight curls or poodle hair and choose a more natural haircut. It was also the hippie age, so the glamor completely disappeared, being replaced with smooth and free hairdos.

Almost all the women in America preferred to let their hair down and to wear it as simple as possible. It was indeed, a very pretty hairdo, but since they hadn’t the facilities from our days, they had to appeal at other methods to straighten their hair; and the more used was the regular clothing iron. Imagine all those efforts that women had to make if they wanted to be in trend. And especially the young girls who wanted to attract the boys, trying to give themselves a very smooth and straight look.

In the 70’s many new hairstyles appeared besides hippie. One of them was the Afro, and this isn’t hard to understand since in that time the black pride came out strongly and their principles were promoted everywhere. They said that you don’t have to be necessary white to be beautiful, and they were right. The black people has a special texture of the hair and in those times, this gave them a huge puff look that afro girls and boys wore it.

Another famous haircut was the Shag, which remained in our fashion until these days and it only suffered a few modifications. It is a very sexy and practic haircut which gives a very messy look. In time, famous actresses such as Meg Ryan and Lisa Rinna wore this immortal haircut.Fashion was always important for men, no matter what they say. Don’t believe them when you will hair that it doesn’t matter how their hair look like, in reality, they give it a lot if importance.

That’s why one of the 1970’s hairstyles for men was mullet, which meant cutting the hair down from the sides and let it longer down on the shoulders. The page boy was a very popular style between teenagers. And if even the little boys had their specific haircut in the 70’s, it’s obvious that men were really interested in their look.

But the most famous hairstyle for women that appeared in that period and survived until now, it’s the feathered look, created by Ferrah Fawcett. It’s very casual but elegant, and it’s not that hard to do it. You don’t need to go to the hairdresser it you want to try it, actually, you can do it yourself: blow dry your hair in a way that you can obtain volume and after that, blow dry your hair around your face in order to get a simply but pretty look.The hairstyles in 1970 were surely cozy and soft, we can easily compare a catalog with pictures of the hairdos in that time with a Liberty Parade…but for hair!
