Every bride wants to feel beautiful on her Wedding Day. Your wedding hair should reflect the theme of your wedding, as well as your personal style.

Having your hair up is the popular choice for the traditional bride. But times are changing and glamorous and a modern wedding hair- down style is sure to make a statement. The most important thing is to feel comfortable with your wedding hairstyle choice. If you usually wear your hair down, having you hair up may make you feel uncomfortable on your wedding day. Alternatively by having you hair up you would be making a glamorous statement.

Let’s explore the many types of hairstyles brides choose for their wedding day;

Wedding Hair – Ups

Structured and tight wedding hair- ups are still a favourite and tend to suit a low headpiece or tiara and a low placed veil usually under the bun. Brides are now also choosing unstructured romantic wedding hair ups such as the Grecian style with a side braid or a very loose side bun curled which will add a touch of Hollywood to your day.

Wedding Hair Downs

Wedding hair down styles will generally suit a strapless wedding gown. Leaving your hair down with a slight wave is youthful and natural. A more traditional hair down style could be long structured curls which looks elegant and young and suits a headpiece and veil. Perhaps a 1960′s inspired straight style with bee hive is your choice. This style is elegant and beautiful and traditional goes well with a wedding gown with thin or no straps.

Wedding head pieces and wedding accessories can further reflect the theme of your day. Whether it is a single rose headpiece, a wedding hair band or a tiara, remember that your choice in your wedding hair accessories and head pieces should compliment your wedding hairstyle.

The ‘50

The ’50 represents a very complex, but beautiful period regarding hairstyle and fashion. The war was almost finishing and the ladies, tired of fights and poverty, wanted some changes in their looks in order to celebrate the end of a numerous chain of battles. As the war sucked all the power and beauty from them, they decided to wear colorful clothes and accessories and pretty hairdos, hoping that they will regain their smile.

Women all around the world were obliged to wear practical hairdos, since they had all complicated jobs to do. But not now! In the ‘50, women decided to be more romantic and glamorous even when it comes for their hair. In every school you could have seen happy girls wearing ponytails; this is a result of the war, when they had to wear their hair like that. But know, the natural ponytail became more stylish and pimped. As for the women, the French plait gains a lot of field and at that time, it was one of the most popular hairstyles.

In the later period of the ’50, the waiting had raised, and the hairstyles had to work harder to satisfy the demandings. They created very complicated and feminine hairdos, such as the poodle cut, and other short but elegant cuts. They had to move very fast and to invent a hairstyle one after the other, since in that time, women started enjoying the days spent at the beauty salon. And this permanent rush wasn’t available only for the hairstylists, but for the designers also. Chanel and Dior, who started creating in the ’50, made history with their immortal creations.

Now, more than never, women loved the curls, so the teenagers and the edgers preferred short cuts, but necessary with tight medium curls. The bouffant was another sophisticated hairdo admired by girls and worn by the actresses and singers of that time. It was a very complicated hairstyle and it required a lot of time to do it, plus a lot of hair spray to define it. The “sister” of the bouffant was the beehive, for which you ought to have gone to the hair salon. The hairstylists used a wet roller and a hair dryer in order to create this complicated but chic hairdo for the rich ladies.

When it comes to men, in the ’50, all tried to copy Elvis Presley’s style. And the ones who didn’t like him, had tried the ducktail hairstyle, which implied the application of loads of grease. But of course, men weren’t that obsessed of fashion in that time. On the other hand, between women circulated a madness for short hair. The Audrey Hepburn made it even bigger, when she gave up to her long curls and cut down her hair in „Roman Holiday”.

All in all, the ’50 meant a lot for the world of the fashion and hairstyle, since even now some elements of that period are being kept and adopted by some famous actresses. The contribution of those years for women looks is huge and it shouldn’t be forgotten.
